I was never a fan of Buffy, but I did like a few of the episodes a friend of mine made me watch in high school! :D She let me borrow her vhs tapes lol! And I also remember the musical episode "Once More with Feeling" so that was more or less a good reason to watch Joss Whedon's web series, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog!!
Oh, and Neil Patrick Harris is another reason. He's the best thing in How I Met Your Mother and he was a pretty good singer in Assassins. He's too cute in this :) I felt so sorry for him. Oh how I hated Captain Hammer. Ew. My sister just reminded me that he's that stuck up guy in Blast from the Past. Ew. Captain Hammer is the real villain in the show. Poor Dr. Horrible.
I also LOVED the songs. My favorite is "My Freeze Ray", such a cute and funny song. I also liked "My Eyes" aaand.. "Everythig You Ever". Those two songs are ~so dramatic~ I love it. NPH is too adorable for words. :o I think they'll be continuing the series and I'll definitely look forward to it.

Yay for Dr. Horrible!
But eh, I think the point is that Joss & co. tricked us into rooting for and liking the villain. After-all, he focused on doing evil more than getting to know Penny, and his crush on Penny didn't really have much to go on considering he had never even spoken to her. I didn't feel much sorry for him. And in the end, he is indeed a villain. Maybe he's not all bad, but he's a villain nevertheless. Yeah, Hammer is a douche, and Penny had her faults as well, but I wouldn't say Hammer is the true villain. This one goes many ways. Overall though, it's a great take on the superhero/villain world - twisting it around just a bit, giving the typical hero origin story to the villain. And gah, Nathan Fillion, he played smarmy sooo well. Can't tell you how much I've laughed while listening to his speech in a song, "Everyone's a Hero". Fantastic stuff. :)
